World 100m hurdles record holder Tobi Amusan on Wednesday, won the first gold medal at the ongoing African Athletics Championships 2026 in Accra, Ghana after crossing the line in 12.83 seconds.
Her compatriot Adaobi Tabugbo won the bronze medal at 13.26 behind Zimbabwe’s Ashley Miller who picked the silver at 13.24.
Nigeria’s Rosemary Chukwuma also picked silver in the women’s100m behind Cameroon’s Hervé Kole Etame.
Chidera Ezeakor won bronze in the men’s 100m final behind Cameroon’s Emmanuel Eseme who won gold and South Africa’s Bradley Nkoana who took silver.
Nigeria grabbed a second gold medal for the day in the mixed 4x400m relay, as the quartet of Ezekiel Asuquo, Toheebat Jimoh, Victor Sampson and Patience Okon-George combined superbly to stop the clock in 3:16.41.Botswana took silver in 3:17.88, while Kenya completed the podium in 3:17.94
Nigeria’s Sade Olatoye won silver in the women’s hammer throw with a best mark of 69.60m, making it five medals in day two and six medals on the table so far.
